Meet Justin McCord

Justin McCord, PMHNP-BC, completed his master's degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2020. He is a native Tennessean who grew up on a dairy farm in southern middle Tennessee where he learned the importance of hard work and family values. After high school he earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of North Alabama. Later, eyeing a career change he went back and earned his bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2017.

He worked in critical care right out of nursing school but quickly found that psychiatric nursing was his passion. He worked as a psychiatric nurse at Rolling Hills Hospital in Franklin, TN and in his spare time would work as a camp nurse at a camp for 11- and 12-year olds near Birmingham, AL. He saw that there was an increasing need for mental health treatment and a lack of providers, so he made the decision to attend Vanderbilt University to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.

He believes in upholding a holistic, non-discriminatory view of each person as a biopsychosocial being, consisting of more than just genetics but of environmental factors, social, spiritual and life experiences. He feels that it is crucial to meet persons where they are at physically, emotionally, spiritually, and economically while ensuring a safe and trusting environment.
